The plant for converting fatty acids from raw material treatment at the AQP site using the lipid recovery unit was installed at A&A Fratelli Parodi on a dedicated skid.
The unit comprises a reactor in which the esterification reaction of fatty acids with 2-ethylhexyl alcohol is carried out. The reactor is heated via a thermal oil boiler and is connected to a collection tank for recovering unreacted alcohol at the end of the process.
The initial plant layout planned to use the same reactor for neutralisation and decolorisation of the reaction crude, which was subsequently sent to a filter press to obtain the neutralised and decolorised product for deodorisation.
