The lipid separation process was conducted at lab scale by CNR IRSA using two types of sludge collected from Bari West WWTP (AQP): primary sludge and sewage scum. As expected, lipid recovery from primary sludge was low due to its initially low lipid content, yielding approximately 16–25%. In contrast, sewage scum achieved a recovery yield of 80–85%. These grease samples were further processed by A&A Fratelli Parodi, resulting in a range of potential biolubricant products using different process configurations. The resulting biolubricants were sent to FIOCHEM, which will complete their characterization and initiate an evaluation study for potential specific applications.
